On the verge

11 April, 2008 · 1 Comment

There you are. I think this is it. A blog about video activism, documentary making, journalism and things of the sort. Yes ok, I should´ve said, here you are with another blog about video making. I think I have a tiny differential though: I´m writing from Brazil – yep, the country of football, beaches, hair removal techniques and, well, the world famous nuts.

I can´t help dedicating my first post to yet another brilliant Schmovie, On the Verge, which thanks to the ever-so-helpful British police, will not be in cinemas soon. The documentary tells the story of the direct-action campaign against EDO MBM local arms-making branch in Brighton.

According to Schnews “Police attempts to stop On The Verge being screened has also begun. Last week the premiere screening at the Duke Of Yorks Cinema in Brighton was pulled at the last minute after police invention, and several venues due to host the tour and film have been subjected to police threats”.

I´m actually a half-full sort of person – I´ve always been. So, I prefer to see this as a formidable voluntary PR exercise from the authorities. Let´s face it, how else could a video-activism project be publicized if it wasn´t for a little push of a police threat here, a screening blockade there…
